MY ART ON MIRROR GLASS (STAINED GLASS)

This is my deliberate attempt to move away from the traditional canvas to explore a different platform for my paintings. Then I found the mirror glass very interesting ground for my unique style of linear drawing/painting. The finished piece serves both the purposes of aesthetics and utility. Which means you can appreciate the art work as well check out yourself in the mirror. Everyone needs a mirror either at home or in the offices. I am presenting us all with the option of owning a mirror that is an art piece. 

This could be hung in our offices, conference rooms, hotels, even walls you least expect a mirror could be placed, because the intention wouldn’t just be about looking at a mirror, it will be an art piece that appeals to all. I also make portraits on mirror glass; imagine what it will feel like to have your picture painted on a mirror glass. The experience will be inexplicable being able to see yourself in the mirror and a picture of you at the same time. 

This piece of Art can be given as an award (to serve as plaques), to celebrate heroes in our lives, organizations or communities.

I am Prince Olusegun Michael Adeniyi, I am passionate about Art and Art education

I am Prince Olusegun Michael Adeniyi and I am passionate about two things; Art and Art education. My story is of an ordinary individual doing extra-ordinary things to affect his world positively and to help improve art appreciation and practice in Nigeria.

I am an award winning art educator, who is dedicated, resourceful, imaginative, goal-driven and committed to creating meaningful and stimulating art projects to improve students’ ability, creativity, appreciation, perception, awareness, concentration, confidence, and motivation. I have a talent for instilling art appreciation, and promoting creativity and open-mindedness in students. I combine my talent with an excellent skilled background in virtual documentation to promote artists and young talents globally for e-community exposure.

In 2014, I was nominated for the Global Teachers Prize; also in 2014, I was awarded the Eminent Award for Innovative Teaching by the BBHS Old Boys Association (the Eminent, 1979-84 set), I was awarded Distinguished Merit Award by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation where I was a member of jury for its 2014 Art contest for Lagos state secondary school students; I got the Most Outstanding Teacher award of the 2012/2013 Academic Session at the Baptist Boys High School Mission; in 2013, I was TNJ Africa 40 Under Forty Achievement Awards honouree; and in 2010, I was awarded the Most Innovative and Dedicated Staff award of 2009/2010 Session,  at Anu Olu Int’l College, Abeokuta, Nigeria. I also bagged the best graduating student award for NCE Fine and Applied Arts from Federal College of Education, Abeokuta in 2000. I was trained as an artist at the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria.

I am the founder of TEACHING VISUAL ART, creative social enterprises that provide diver platform for promoting, encouraging artistic engagements and to increase the community’s awareness on the importance of arts education. We have organized diverse art projects for the Nigerian children and also the Art Teachers Connect project for Art teachers with the purpose of encouraging, inspiring and stimulating creative conversation and exchange of ideas between art teachers towards improvement of quality of art education in Nigeria. Our current project is the CHILDREN ART CLUB; learn more about it at www.teachingvisualart.blogspot.com

(Art) Art is my passion, my calling. I discovered early that I enjoy art and my art has been evolving over the years. When I look back at my art, I see a thread of continuity, commitment and progressive improvement over time. My works are an embodiment of quality, creativity and originality. Every stroke, every daub of paint, every allure in my works, reflects the connection to my African cultural heritage. My technique explores themes dealing with basic human desires and cultural changes, through which I create art with the hope of finding answers to environmental issues today. Society has been my influence, and nature inspires me.

(Arts Education) I am committed to the cause of inspiring and championing the next generation of artists, art lovers and creative future leaders. I am so passionate about helping kids harnessing their God’s given talents and inspiring an artistic future in a child. My goal has always been to increase young ones’ motivation, awareness and understanding of the arts.

Creative impulses are present in all human beings, but for one to excel in art, this creative instinct has to be cultivated, nourished and exercised so that it can be stimulated in others. This debunks the impression that Art is only meant for the gifted.  One of my greatest strength as an art educator is that I connect effortlessly with the children and fuel their aspiration to create art through differ platform of artistic engagements.

The core of my mission as an art educator is to provide a platform for every child to experience the beauty and the rewarding experience of engaging in the art. It does not matter if the experience ends just as a hobby, a career, or simply as an appreciative observer. I WAS HONOURED WITH AN AWARD BY THE NIGERIAN CONSERVATION FOUNDATION

To succeed today and in the future, the children will need to be inventive, resourceful and imaginative. If you believe in the creative future of our children, you will support and help increase resources for art education in Nigerian schools; such educational activities that will help our children to harness their God’s given talents and build the next generation of creative African leaders.

I will always support and get involved in projects and programmes that will give our children the platform to exhibit and improve on their innate talents, especially the arts. So, it was such a great honour to be invited in October by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation to be part of the member of jury for children Art competition for Primary and Secondary Schools in Lagos State. The art competition’s theme was “Voices from Slums” in celebration of the 2014 World Habitat Day.

The award ceremony-cum-exhibition was held on Thursday 30th October, 2014 at NCF Headquarters, Km 19, Epe-expressway, Lekki, Lagos in partnership with UNHABITAT FOR A BETTER URBAN FUTURE, and supported by MTN. It was a success.

 At the event I was honoured with a Distinguished Merit Award in recognition of my service to the success of the Art competition. This award is dedicated to my son, Prince Samuel Adeniyi and all the children of the world.

2014 NNPC/CHEVRON JOINT VENTURE NATIONAL ART COMPETITION

 I am still in the business of supporting Art from the grassroots, making effort to unearth the hidden talents in my community and advocating for visual aesthetic. I believe in the creative future of our children, and that’s why I teach Art.

On October 15^th, I was at the 2014 NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture National Art Competition for Nigerian Secondary School students’ award ceremony in Lagos.

My Art protégé, Ayankola Olatomiwa Ridwan, a student of the Baptist Boys High School (Mission) is one of the 20 finalists selected from the 641 entries with the theme; Nigeria at 100 (Centenary Celebration).

I am so honoured to have presented a winner this year. I was at the 2010 edition of the Art contest final to commemorate the Nigeria’s 50^th independence anniversary; and this year edition when Nigeria is celebrating centenary anniversary.  This event is a “world cup” to be for all Art teachers.

CELEBRATING THE 3RD UNESCO INTERNATIONAL ARTS EDUCATION WEEK: MY EXPERIENCE

 

Art for me is a tool for social change and there are not words as powerful as a single drawing, painting, mural, craft, photography, graffiti or graphics. I hope all art teachers could realize this and offer this generation the best possible Art education and provide inspirations for the generations to come.

With the support from ART SCOUT I organized an Art exhibition in celebration of the International Arts Education Week at BBHS, Abeokuta. The title of the exhibition was THE MAN OF PEACE which features paintings, drawings, and wearable arts. I created series of art from a concept I made to epitomize Beautiful Nubia (a stage name for popular Nigerian music artist, Dr. Segun Akinlolu). Part of the designs were hand printed on a dyed and plain background sewn fabric (wearable art); and was also painted on canvas. For me, Beautiful Nubia is a man of peace and he has exhibited that several times through his songs. He has a lot of tracks from his albums (Jangbalajugbu, Awilele, Fere, Kilokilo, Sun no dey sleep, oriojori, and most recent Keere), songs that provide inspiration for love, peace and harmony. I was invited on OGTV’s New Dawn programme to represent the Nigerian Art teachers to create awareness for the celebration of the International Arts Education Week and to discuss the Importance of Art education in our society on Friday 23^rd May, 2014 by 9am.
